Hello,
Is anybody still researching this family? I'm struggling with it so much...
The only births I've been able to find on Scotlands People are for David, James, Jean and John all born to James Ballingall and Margaret Maclaren.
That leaves Alexander and Mary Ballingall. The one IM most interested in is Mary Ballingall.
On her death cert it says that Margaret and James are her parents but this could be wrong, on SP I can't find ANY births for a Mary Ballingall in the area or time frame that would seem likely. It's becoming so frustrating

Can you give the details on her death cert, date and informant?

Also details of any marriage & children.

Have you found her on any census?

Molly, you are fortunate to have found some of the births for James and Margaret's children :)  Only about a third of events were recorded pre 1855, for all sorts of reasons. Even though you have some births/christenings, there are often gaps (family moving around, lost registers etc). You may well get no confirmation of Mary's birth/christening, and parents info will only come from her death cert which you have.

Is this Mary in 1861?

William Nicol 51 Perth, Perthsire b. Perth
Mary Ballingall 53 Outworker b. Dron, Perthsire
David Nicol 15 Ap Labr b. Orwell, Kinross
Address: Craigomill, Orwell, Kinross

You asked in this post and the other, what else you could check to try and get additional info on Mary and connect her to the family of James and Margaret.

The 1861 census I showed above. 1851 Ev mentions in the other post. Have you come across 1841:

William Nicol 30 b. Scotland
Mary Nicol 29 b. Scotland
John Nicol 8
James Nicol 6
William Nicol 4
Margaret Nicol 1
James Ballingall 30 Game Keeper b. Scotland
Address: Windy Walls, Orwell Kinross

Colin's info above showed a son James christened in 1806. Wondering if the James above is Mary's brother... Following him through might let you confirm details further for the family.

The James above showing with the Nicols in 1841, I think this might be his entry in 1851:

James Ballingal 42, agr lab. born N.K. (not known) Perth visiting a David Wright and family at Leslie South Lodge, Kinglassie, Fife

Meanwhile, his daughter with maternal grandmother here it would seem:

Margaret Stalker 61
Robert Stalker 30
Margt Ballingall 8 granddaughter https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XBVP-KZ8
Henry Mc Culloch 4
Town: (South Side) of Milnathort, Orwell

1861, father and daughter here:

James Ballingall 54 gamekeeper b. Milnathort, Kinrosshire
Margaret Ballingall 18 b. Milnathort, Kinrosshire
Address: Cumbernauld Rd, Cumbernauld, Dumbartonshire

Death date given for James elsewhere is 12 Dec 1876, East Gelly Bank, Kinross.

Hello,
On Mary Ballingall/Nicols death cert it says that she died May 29th 1867 at Kinross, Adress was W. Balado. Informant was William Nicol (son).

I have her marriage to William Nicol as 1830 in Forgandenny.

Their dau Margaret Nicol married Robert Haggart in 1862 in Kinross. Roberts address was W. Balado. Witness where Maggie Mclaren and Mary ann leitch.

Back to William Nicol and Mary Ballingall, I think that Mary had a sister named Jean Ballingall who married a Francis Leitch I believe they then had a day named Mary Ann Leitch who could possibly be the person who was a witness to Robert Haggart and Mary's wedding. As for the Maggie Mclaren witness, I haven't found that yet :)
