Can someone please explain, when the MOD say next of kin when applying for RAF service records do they include the eldest son/daughter as next of kin when both parents are deceased. I am trying to get  my fathers service records from WW2

Thanks Steve

The Next-of-Kin form details who they consider! ;D

Read the list below and when you come to the first living relative of the deceased subject place an "X" in the box and write their full name next to it. This process will enable you to identify the person who the MOD will regard as th immediate Next of Kin.

Spouse/Civil Partner
Son/Daughter
Grandchild
Father/Mother
Brother/Sister
Nephew/Niece
Grandparent
Other (Please specify)
Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)

You should be able to buy your father's service records whether or not you are his oldest child.

I think the lists are a little odd sometimes (especially the Australian ones  ::)) - eg. in the list KGarrad posted I don't understand why a grandchild would come before a parent ... but I suppose there must be a reason behind it.

Good luck.
