Baptism
« on: Friday 13 November 15 15:36 GMT (UK) »
I have a copy of the baptismal record of John Freeston in 1836 in Barrowby Lincs. On the bottom it says "returned June 1837" I have never seen this before and am wondering if anyone can tell me what it means.

Maybe the first baptism had been done (possibly at home) as the child was sickly and they were the baptised later in church

You aren't baptised twice. The baptism service consists of two parts, the baptism itself and the public receiving of the infant before the congregation at a service in the church as a member of Christ’s flock. If a child is baptised privately, at home, they ought to be brought to the Church as soon as possible to be received as members of " the flock of true Christian people". So where a private baptism is employed, there is a further rite (if the child survives) of reception into church.
Is the image of the baptism record available online?

Yes the image is available on line.....on  Find My Past. I did look at June 1837 but could see no further notice of him.

Is the baptism C of E, or another denomination?
I am Australian, from all the lands I come (my ancestors, at least!)

Pine/Pyne, Dowdeswell, Kempster, Sando/Sandoe/Sandow, Nancarrow, Hounslow, Youatt, Richardson, Jarmyn, Oxlade, Coad, Kelsey, Crampton, Lindner, Pittaway, and too many others to name.
Devon, Dorset, Gloucs, Cornwall, Warwickshire, Bucks, Oxfordshire, Wilts, Germany, Sweden, and of course London, to name a few.

"returned June 1837"
The standard wording would be received (rather than returned). Any chance it says that?

I have checked the wording again and it definitely says returned.

Which church is the baptism at? Is the word "returned" in the one baptism entry or at the bottom of the page. A Church of England baptism at that time would be entered in the pre-printed baptism  register required under the 1812 Parochial Registers Act.
