Hi! I'm a Liverpool Poulson on my father's side. Does anybody know anything about the early 19th century Danish connection?

Hello & welcome
Can you give a bit more info ( not mentioning anyone still living).
What's the last Poulson ancestor you have?
Why do you believe there's a Danish connection?

Hi and welcome to Rootschat - what makes you think there is a Danish connection
http://www.lan-opc.org.uk/Search/indexp.html
click
poulson
all events
1601 first record in Colne, Lancashire
Poulson in 1750's in Liverpool - a Sailor

Burial: 3 Feb 1763 St Peter, Liverpool, Lancashire, England
Paul Poulson - Son of Nich. Poulson
    Occupation: Sailor

Baptism: 14 Aug 1773 St Peter, Liverpool, Lancashire, England
Elizabeth Poulson - Daughter of Nicholas Poulson
    Born: 29 Jul 1773
    Occupation: Mariner
so it looks like Nicholas Poulson was the first in Liverpool - I would have thought Poulson comes from  Paulson - son of Paul

Marriage: 18 Nov 1753 St Peter, Liverpool, Lancashire, England
Paul Paulson - Sailr.
Cath. Sinclair - Spinster
also a sailor - let me check om Poulson surname

it would appear you are correct - the earliest Poulson I can find is this tree and it is from Skanderborg,Denmark
starts 1635

Oh wow! I didn't think anyone would reply! Well I was reading a book recently about the Liverpool dialect and it was saying that there were a lot of Danish merchants in Liverpool in the early 19th century...the name is very very common with our spelling in Denmark and I would love to know if that's when it goes back to...from the last post it looks like there have been Poulsons in Liverpool for a long time!
