Do you know anything else about him?  When and where was he born?  Have you found him on any census records or was he born after 1911?

Do you know who the other person is with Albert Potter in the 1939 record?

I've done a slightly different search on 1939 and I think the other person is a William E. Potter.

Does this name mean anything to you?

Did you look at the full details for Albert?  It should give you his dob, marital status and occupation.

One possibility for a name change was in order to inherit something.

I found a family on the 1911 census who might be Albert's family

Dad and Mum are Harry Hunt and Edith (nee Bellinger), children listed are Leslie, Olive, Reginald and Donald.   Dad is a carpenter.  Address is Rose Cottage, Thruxton, Andover

However I feel we are getting ahead of ourselves here!

If Ferret could tell us all the details from the 1939 register that would give us something to work on.

Apparently Albert is a Master Fishmonger so I wondered about looking in something like Kelly's directory to see if it gave a clue as to when Hunt became Potter.  I think you can look under trade as well as name in these directories.

I agree

I'd seen the 1899 marriage entry on FreeBMD for Harry & Edith and did wonder if they
might be Albert's parents, only the index available to view on Anc*y

ferrett details for you too keep to one side just in case they are his parents

24 May 1899 Alderbury, Wiltshire,
Harry Frank Hunt 25 father John, Edith Mary Bellinger father Richard

1901 census with Harry, Edith & Leslie Hunt
RG13; Piece: 1114; Folio: 75; Page: 2
for info. son Leslie's middle name is James born 29 Sep 1899, from his death & birth entry (See FreeBMD)

ferrett - Forgot to say Welcome to Rootschat  :)

Did Albert marry? If he did was his surname Hunt or Potter?

Do you have his b/c? This would confirm his parent/s names

If not and you agree that the birth entry details Rosie has posted obtaining that should
confirm both his parents names.

Hi Ferrett,

Welcome to Rootschat.

"Albert Hunt, aka Albert Potter."

How do you connect the two names as being the same person?
Do you have any proof of your "assumption"?
