Kaess (Käß or Käss) Family from Benningen am Neckar, Germany

Gerd Edwin Paul Kaess (1947-1972) came from Heutingsheim, Germany, in 1965 to Chicago as a legal U.S. Resident. We know this because he worked as a Printer in the Chicago area. He came to the Chicago area in the same era (within 10-15 years or so) as his Kulhanek cousins. Gerd married Marie Ellen Dawson (1945-2012) in abt 1967, presumably in Chicago as well. Gerd had two identical twin sons (*) born Oct 24 1967 in Chicago.
Mary Ellen Dawson (1945-2012) is believed to be of Scotch-Irish, slight French, English and German-American extraction.
The parents of Gerd Edwin Paul Kaess (1947-1972) are Paul Ernst Kaess (1921-2002) and Dorothea Dorschke (1922-1951). Paul came from a long line of Kaess' in Benningen am Neckar, Wuerttemberg, Germany. His parents were Friedrich Emil Kaess (1889-1968) and Anna Berta Falkenecker (1890-1970). Emil Friedrich Kaess is a rufname or preferred name for Friedrich Emil Kaess. The Falkenecker Family hails from Heutingsheim, Germany, a nearby town to Benningen. Gerd Edwin Paul Kaess was raised in a cute home on Bahnhofstrasse 33 in Heutingsheim, Germany, during the 1950's and early 1960's.
The Kaess Family owned a vinyard in Benningen for at least two generations. They grew Trollinger and Lemberger wine there, but this was not their main occupation.
The Kaess surname is believed to be an occupational surname related to cheese makers.

Welcome to  Rootschat,

Not sure what you are looking for other than the meaning of the name Kaess.  Perhaps putting this request in the German listing might get  the response you need

Good Luck

Paul Ernst Kaess (1921-2002) would say to his American relatives in 1990:
1) 'Du Hast total andere Mentalität'. 'You have a totally different mentality.'
2) 'Wir sind kein Millionaires'. 'We are not Millionaires.'
3) He also used Swabish phrases such as 'Das is egal!' 'It does not matter!' or 'Gell!' 'Right'

Hildegard Golz (1924-2004) would say to her American relatives in 1990:
4) Was du willst!  'Do what you want!'

There is a family story that Marie Ellen (Dawson) Kaess (1945-2012), widow to Gerd Edwin Paul Kaess, was mugged on the Wilson CTA Train Platform by a Black person sometime in the early 1990's in Chicago. The Black man punched her and then threw her down the stairs, causing her to suffer broken teeth.
Marie Ellen (Dawson) Kaess kept her married surname Kaess after the death of her husband Gerd in 1972 until her own death in 2012.

Kaess Family Ancestors

The parents of Friedrich Emil Kaes (1889-1968) are Andreas Kaes (1824-1896) and Johanna Caroline Lang (b. 1850). Andreas Kaes was born Nov 13 1824 and died Mar 14 1896, both in Benningen, Wuerttemberg, Germany. Andreas was married twice. His first wife Anna Dietiker (1823-1879) died in 1879 – the same year he married Joahnna Caroline Lang (his 2nd wife). With Ann he had two children: Wilhelm and Caroline. With Joahnna Caroline Lang, he had five children, his last being Friedrich Emil Kaes (1889-1968). There is a 'familien register' placing Andreas Kaes with his spouse Johanna Caroline (Lang) Kaes, along with their five children and parents. It also mentions that Friedrich Emil Kaes traveled to Buenos Aires in 1923.
The parents of Andreas Kaes are Johannes Kaes (1794-1862) and Regina Barbara Staengle (1789-1829). Johannes Kaes was born Aug 8 1794 and died Dec 12 1862. Regina Barbara Staengle was born Apr 4 1789 and died Aug 3 1829.
The parents of Johannes Kaes are Andreas Kaes (1755-1824) and  Johanna Barbara Entenmann (1760-1824). They married on Aug 7 1782 in Benningen. Andreas Kaes was born abt 1755 and died on Feb 9 1824, both in Benningen. Johanna Barbara Entenmann was born Jun 23 1760 (in Benningen) and died Oct 30 1824. The Kaess’ and Entenmann’s are both ‘old’ families in Benningen and there is evidence of intermarriage between them.
The parents of Andreas Kaes (1755-1824) were Johann Jacob Kaes (1730-1794) and Anna  Elizabeth Buerkle (1732-1760). They married on Aug 21 1753 in Benningen. Johann Jacob Kaes was born on Oct 16 1730 and died on Oct 24 1794, both in Benningen. Anna Elizabeth Buerkle was born on Nov 30 1732 and died on Nov 26 1760, both in Benningen. The parents of Johann Jacob Kaes were Johann Georg Kaes (b. abt 1704)and Anna Margaretha Thomas (b. July 26 1700 in Benningen). They married on Nov 10 1729 in Benningen.
Finally, the parents of Johann Georg Kaess were Georg Kaes (1669-1755) and Anna Catharina Roestlin  (b. 1658). They married on  Nov 27 1703 in Benningen. Georg Kaes was born Jan 27 1669 in Burgstall, Germany and died on Jan 9 1755 in Benningen. Georg Kaess was the ‘first’ Kaess in Benningen. He eventually settled in Benningen after his marriage.
Therefore, Benningen am Neckar, Germany, has been the ‘Heimat’ of the Kaess Family for centuries.
Therefore, the Kaess Family Tree is elucidated.

George Kaes (1669-1755), 1st Kaess in Benningen, born in Burgstall.
His Father was Georg Kaes, b. 1634. m. to Maria Geyger (b.1636)
His Mother was Anna Maria Bidembach (1603-1662), daughter from pastor Daniel Bidembach (1557-1626)
His dad was (Johann) Balthasar Bidembach (1533-1578)
His Dad was Johannes Bidembach (1503-1554)
His mother was Margaretha Württemberger (1481-1537),
her dad was Johannes "Hans der Elter" Württemberger (1451-1503), an illegitimate son (but accredited) from  Ludwig I von Württemberg Urach (1412-1450), a Count of Wuerttemburg and an unknown mistress or 'hofdame von Graf Ludwig'.
His legit wife was Mechthild.
Now we are in the high aristocracy in the direct line
Ludwig I’s ancestors include Ludwig IV Wittelsbach, Holy Roman Emperor (1282-1347), and also the Visconti’s of Milan (Dukes), namely Bernabo Visconti (1323-1385), Lord Sovereign of Milan.

After reviewing an article on familypedia on Ludwig I, Count of Wuerttemberg (1412-1450), it was found that he is a descendant of Charlemagne (747-814) and William the Conquerer (1027-1087).

The Line of Descent from Charlemagne to Ludwig I, Count of Wuerttemberg (1412-1450) is as follows:

Charlemagne (742/747-814)
Louis I ‘The Pious’ Holy Roman Emperor (778-840)
King Charles ‘The Bald’ (823-877)
Louis ‘The Stammerer’ King of France II (846-879)
Princess of France Ermentrude (875-914)
Cunigunda Countess of Treves & Ardennes (-923)
Sigefried Count of Luxembourg (916-998)
Eva Countess of Luxembourg (967-)
Louis 1er de Mousson (980-1023)
Sofie Mousson (1019-)
Ludwig von Arnstein (1045-1095)
Ludwig II von Arnstein (1075-1117)
Anastacia von Arnstein
Ruprecht I von Nassau  Count of Laurenburg (1090-1155)
Walram I Count of Nassau (1146-1198)
Henry II Count of Nassau
Walram II of Nassau (1220-1276)
Adolf I (1256-1298)
Rudolf I ‘The Stammerer’ of Bavaria (1274-1319)
Louis IV Wittelsbach Holy Roman Emperor (-1347)
Herzogin Elizabeth von Bayern (1330-1402)
Eberhard III  (1365-1417)
Graf Eberhard IV von Wuerttemberg der Jungere (1388-1419)
Count Ludwig I von Wuerttemberg  (1412-1450)

Therefore, the Kaess' (or Kaes') in Benningen am Neckar, Germany, and their descendants are also descendants of Charlemagne.
