Kaess (Käß or Käss) Family from Benningen am Neckar, Germany
Gerd Edwin Paul Kaess (1947-1972) came from Heutingsheim, Germany, in 1965 to Chicago as a legal U.S. Resident. We know this because he worked as a Printer in the Chicago area. He came to the Chicago area in the same era (within 10-15 years or so) as his Kulhanek cousins. Gerd married Marie Ellen Dawson (1945-2012) in abt 1967, presumably in Chicago as well. Gerd had two identical twin sons (*) born Oct 24 1967 in Chicago.
Mary Ellen Dawson (1945-2012) is believed to be of Scotch-Irish, slight French, English and German-American extraction.
The parents of Gerd Edwin Paul Kaess (1947-1972) are Paul Ernst Kaess (1921-2002) and Dorothea Dorschke (1922-1951). Paul came from a long line of Kaess' in Benningen am Neckar, Wuerttemberg, Germany. His parents were Friedrich Emil Kaess (1889-1968) and Anna Berta Falkenecker (1890-1970). Emil Friedrich Kaess is a rufname or preferred name for Friedrich Emil Kaess. The Falkenecker Family hails from Heutingsheim, Germany, a nearby town to Benningen. Gerd Edwin Paul Kaess was raised in a cute home on Bahnhofstrasse 33 in Heutingsheim, Germany, during the 1950's and early 1960's.
The Kaess Family owned a vinyard in Benningen for at least two generations. They grew Trollinger and Lemberger wine there, but this was not their main occupation.
The Kaess surname is believed to be an occupational surname related to cheese makers.
