Below is a 2002 Death Certificate for Paul Ernst Kaess (1921-2002):

"With reference to your letter of 25/04/2020, the Registry Office in Racibórz (formerly Ratibor) informs you that the local office has not found any marriage documents on the data (Paul Ernst Kaess & Dorothea Dorschke) indicated. At the same time, we would like to inform you that books from the war years have not been preserved, i.e. from 1939 to June 1945. Please also note that we do not have information about the location of these books."

A note on the marriage of Paul Ernst Kaess & Dorothea Dorschke in 1944 can be found on the birth certificate of Gerd Edwin Paul Kaess (1947-1972). Also, the Kaess Family has mentioned that the marriage took place in the St. Johannes Pfarrkirche or Parish Church in Ratibor.

Attached below is part of a memorial (Wall of the Fallen) to townspeople at a church cemetery in Benningen am Neckar, Germany. The year 1945 is shown. Albert Käss is also shown. He may be a cousin to Paul Ernst Kaess (1921-2002).
  There is a Chronicle Book about Benningen which also lists the Table of the Fallen and Missing. Willi Käss is mentioned in this table. His relation to Paul Ernst Kaess is unknown.

Gerd Edwin Paul Kaess (1947-1972) had a medical reason for not serving in the West German military (Bundeswehr), prior to his coming to America in 1965. This is per Arnhild Kaess, his half-sister. Conscription was mandatory for males in Germany from 1956 to 2011.
