Found Drowned.
A man named Arthur Slaughter, a single man, of Dedworth, aged 42, was found drowned in the Mill Stream, at Clewer, on Tuesday morning at 8.30, by a man named Charles Streamer. He was seen alive about half an hour previously. His brother was found drowned in the same stream about two years ago. At the inquest at the Clewer Hall, on Wednesday, conducted by Mr R.S Payne (coroner for East Berkshire) the following evidence was given:
George Slaughter, brother, stated that he had seen the deceased the evening before his death. Deceased had been out of work for 13 weeks, and that had worried him. He had never heard his brother suggest that he would take his own life. Deceased never seemed the same since his brother was drowned. They were single men and used to live together.
Charles Streamer, a farm labourer, gave evidence as to finding the body.
P.C Styles, Clewer, said that when he saw the deceased it appears that weeds must have been holding his feet to account for his position in the water. Money and other articles were found on the body, but nothing which would throw any light on the affair.
A verdict of "Suicide during temporary insanity" was returned.
Can anybody find out anything else about him, his family or anybody else mentioned in report please ?
