Ancestry messaging

Does anyone happen to know if only members with a current subscription can receive and respond to messages on Ancestry?  From the website my understanding is that non-subscribers can also use the messaging service but I wondered if anyone had any experience of this?

I believe non-subscribers can receive messages from subscribers, but not send them.  I think if a subscriber sends a non-subscriber a message then the non-subscriber can respond to it but may stand corrected on that bit.

That's how I understand it as well

Yes non-subs can respond to messages sent to them but they can't start the correspondence off. Some non-subs read a message and then either forget about it because they think they can't message or try other ways to get in touch with the sender. No need, anyone can reply to a message sent to them.
