Ann Pooley marriage and death SA
« on: Sunday 22 November 15 07:00 GMT (UK) »
Hello fellow Rootschatters,
While taking advantage of a free month and a bit from The Genealogist, I have cracked one of maternal brickwalls. However, it doesn't get any easier when I can't find my SA BDM disks (must be in a safe place  ::) ).
Can someone kindly look up the marriage of Ann Pooley to John Paul (Paul is the surname) in 1847; what age is given, and is there a father listed? Also the death of Ann Paul in 1855; what age is given please.
I am hoping to confirm that the Ann Pooley who married John Paul in 1847 is the sister of my 2x great grandmother. I have them coming out on the "Aboukir" in 1847. It seems both Ann and my 2x great grandmother met their future husbands on the ship.

Thanking you in advance,
Darren

You would probably have the TROVE reports of the arrival on Saturday 4 September, 1847, of the sisters Ann, Emmeline, Mary and Elizabeth POOLEY, listed as emigrants, per the Aboukir which sailed from London and Plymouth.  John PAULL (sic) is mentioned also.

Hi Darren,
Ann POOLEY's 1847 marriage record lists her age as 27 (b abt 1820). Single. No father's name recorded. Groom is 22.
Ann PAUL's 1855 death record gives her age as 38 (b abt 1817).
Spike.

As you have the discs you have probably forgotten that father's names are not recorded on SA marriages in 1847.

POOLEY Ann  27 years  Status Single

At Holy Trinity Church Adelaide  Ade 2/171

Death
PAUL Ann  38 years  Status Married  Relative John PAUL [Husband]

Thanks to all for taking the trouble to answer my query.
Cando, yes that was in the back of my mind when I framed the question, but I am sure I have seen a father's name somewhere on an early marriage; although with my memory, it was probably an early church record.  ;D
Those age dates give me more proof that she is indeed the sister of Elizabeth, my ancestor. The Mary I can place, but Emmeline I think is Caroline.
Once again, thank you very much.

Hmmm. Or does Caroline Pooley arrive on the same ship as a Mrs John Trenwith with child Emily?

Both Mary and Elizabeth marry but Emmeline seems to vanish.

Are this lot from Cornwall? I have a Samuel Pooley b 1752, should you stumble upon him.
