Thanks Spike and Cando. I probably should have checked marriages in England as well. I was too busy equating Emmeline with Caroline.
Yes, there is a John Trenwith, wife and child on the Aboukir. Crikey, I must be related to half the ship!
Spike, yes they wear from Cornwall, but I haven't come across a Samuel Pooley yet. The girls' parents are where I am up to at this point. Henry Pooley and his wife Mary, née Johns. According to the 1841 census, Henry was living in St Agnes, Cornwall with Caroline, Elizabeth, Mary and a 5 year old Henry. Mary the mother must have been deceased by then. Ann was lodging with someone else.
So Emmeline is still a mystery. Possibly a completely different Pooley family?

Devon, Dorset, Gloucs, Cornwall, Warwickshire, Bucks, Oxfordshire, Wilts, Germany, Sweden, and of course London, to name a few.

Cornwall OPC has this baptism:

http://www.cornwall-opc-database.org/
5-Sep, 1821
Illogan
Emmeline POOLEY
dau of Henry and Mary
Residence   Nancekuke Downs
Father's occupation: Blacksmith

and this one
10-Nov 1828
Illogan
Mary POOLEY
dau of Henry and Mary
Residence:   Nancekuke
Father's occupation: Blacksmith

I note Henry's occupation in 1841 is also 'blacksmith'.

Centennial Park Cemetery, Mitcham S A have a burial listed for
Emmeline POOLE (sic) supposedly aged 84 but there are no death dates listed for this person so it's a bit of a long shot.

Also from the Cornwall OPC site

I wonder if this is Mary's burial -

29-May, 1829
Parish Or Reg District
Mary POOLEY
Age   34
Residence:   Nancekuke Common

Nancekuke Common can be found by Googling.  It is now RAF Portreath.

Marriage:
21-Feb, 1818
Parish St Agnes, by banns
Henry POOLEY, of this parish, bachelor, signed with cross
Mary JOHNS, otp, spinster, signed with a cross

Judith

Thanks, Cando, for clearing up Emmeline POOLE as the wrong person.

Could be Emma. According to OPC she(Emmeline) was bapt 05 Sep 1821 at Illogan to Henry & Mary
Residence - Nancekuke Downs
Father Occ - Blacksmith

OP has the family in 1841 with Henry 5, so either he is not Henry's son or that isnt Henry's wife Mary buried in 1829. I wonder if Henry belongs to Ann?
The younger Henry dies and is buried 28 June 1842 at St Agnes.

Free Reg has this baptism:

Holy Trinity Church, St Day
05 Mar 1837
Henry
Person abode:   Wheal Rose
Father:    Henry POOLEY, Blacksmith
Mother:   Elizabeth HALES

As the burial (Cornwall OPC) for little Henry shows the same abode it seems likely that the entries are for the same child.
28-Jun, 1842
Parish Or Reg District   Agnes, St.
Henry POOLEY, 6
Residence   Wheal Rose

In 1841 Elizabeth HALL(S?), 35, female servant, is living in the same household with Henry POOLEY senior and the 5 year-old Henry. There is also Richard HALL, 15, blacksmith in the same household.

BTW, the 1841 census entry for Emma POOLEY shows her living only a few households away form Henry and his other daughters, it seems likely that she is Emmeline.

Wow, thank you everyone for your kind input. I have been looking at the various Pooleys of various spelling to work out who belongs to whom. As far as I can see, there was more than one Pooley family in and around St Agnes. Henry was described as a miner on some of his childrens' baptisms, which makes me wonder if it is the same man. And did the family move between St Agnes and Illogan and back again? And then there is the question of baptisms; why baptise some in the parish church, and others (older and younger) in the Methodist faith?

Because this is the Australia thread, we should probably keep things local.  :)
I can't seem to see a death for Caroline or Emmeline/Emma in SA. I found a possible death for John Trenwith, and a possible re-marriage for Caroline (in 1876 to a James Jeffery), but no death for Caroline.
And no, my disks still haven't turned up.  :-[
