Look up request for Stanley F. Pow´s birth & parents

Any help appreciated in finding Stanley F. Pow and his family before 1921 when he married in Bath. I have not found Stanley’s birth yet and have been working back from his daughter´s marriage in 1944.

What I have found to date:-

Daughter Phyllis C. POW born 2q 1924 Bath 5c 760

She married Ralph F. HITCHCOCK 3q 1944 Bath 5c 1192

A little extra information

Stanley Frederick & Clara's marriage took place at Holy Trinity Church, Monmouth Place.
Phyllis Clara Pow was born in Walcot (suburb of Bath) she married in St Luke's Church to a Ralph Frederick Hitchcock.

To be sure you are on the right lines, you really need to get some certificates rather than working solely from the indexes.

For example, his marriage cert would give you a fathers name, and an age at marriage.


There is this death that MIGHT be him :

But unless you get the cert and the informant is widow Clara, or you find a Will with Probate to widow Clara, for example, again you are only working on guesswork based on indexes.

IF that proves to be his death, then you now have  birth year, which makes finding his birth from the indexes, and then potentially finding him on censuses with his family, more of a possibility,

There is a probate for Clara

"POW Clara of 10 High Street Saltford Bristol died 14 December 1964. Probate Bristol 24 March (1965) to Stanley Frederick Pow retired taxicab proprietor. £3,148."

Can't see one for Stanley.

Birth - Margaret H Pow, Bath, Jun 1922, 5c 830 - mother's maiden name Stretton

The newspaper report of a Margaret Pow's wedding in 1941 describes her as the eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs Stanley Frederick Pow and granddaughter of the late Perkins Stretton.

The funeral report of Perkins Stretton's death in 1931 lists, amongst the mourners, Mrs Clara Pow, daughter and Mr S.F. Pow.

The second marriage would match the 1973 death.
