100 Union Road London
« on: Wednesday 16 December 15 05:43 GMT (UK) »
Hello All

A couple married at Christ Church , Rotherhithe in 1924 stated on marriage license that they resided at 100 Union Street. The church , now gone , was on Jamaica Road. I would guess the residence would be fairly close.
Would anyone have info on this street.  :P  Actual location, types of buildings 8)
Any small gems of info would be a gift from Santa Claus :D
Thanks
Dot

Union Road - just above the park?  :-\

There are still a few churches in the area - which one did they marry in?

Hi Ruskie
Thanks for your reply
They were married in Christ Church , Rotherhithe..located Jamaica Road and Cathay Street but now long gone  :-\
When you say above the park.. which park would that be?  Would there have been tenement style buildings in that area?
I should confirm the license did say 100 Union Road as there residence.. not street as I said in request for info  ::)

Union Road is now Jamaica Road

This map shows house numbers, 100 Union Road could have been between 98 and 120. Of course the road could have been renumbered.

According to the Post Office London Directory, 1910. [Vol. I. Part 2: Street Directory] Page 501, 100 Union Road was near Culling Road, http://www.rootschat.com/links/01gof/

types of buildings

100 Union Road was a just a house with three families living there, in 1911, so I suppose you could call it a tenement.

Ruskie, Shaun and Stan
Thank you ever so much for the information.
A three storey house makes sense to me. The family often spoke of other family members living upstairs!
The maps are great Stan... Now my turn to do some digging.
I had been on the wrong path... mixing street and road. It sure pays to go back and re-read!!! Amazing what silly mistakes occur.
Merry Christmas all and may Santa's elves be extra kind to you.
