Searching for Raynor/Smart/Jackson in South Africa
« on: Wednesday 16 December 15 16:14 GMT (UK) »
I recently discovered three siblings of the same family went from the UK to South Africa from 1947 to 1949.

I believe William BR Raynor b. 1926 may have returned to the UK although I can't find his journey back.

His sisters, Eileen Jean Smart b. 1920 (wife of Ernest J Smart b. 1916) and Patricia R Jackson (nee Raynor) b. 1917 I believe stayed in South Africa.

I would be grateful if anyone could point me in the right direction tracing any family of theirs.

I have found the estate file for Ernest Smart.  You can order a copy of it through eggsa.org using the following details.  It should give you the names of any children that they might have had.  Do you know what the B.R. stood for in William's name and what Patricia's husband's name were?

Thanks for that, I've ordered a copy so look forward to receiving that.

I think maybe the B in William's name was Benjamin as there is a death that could be him in the UK in 1982.

Patricia we're told divorced her husband after only a short time and so I think she travelled alone to South Africa, but her husband was Stanley Jackson.

I came across this and just wonder if there might be something here so just bear with me and my skew mind  ;)  Is it possible that Patricia had  a child by Jackson, but used the name Raynor while she was here?  That child could then have 'found out' and applied to have their surname changed? The co-incidence of the two surnames just got my mind wondering!

We've now found out that Ernest Joseph Smart died 27/11/1970 and was living at the time in Klippoortje, Germiston leaving his wife Eileen J Smart and two children.  Any help in finding out where and when Eileen died or whether she and the children indeed stayed in South Africa.

Ernest Joseph Smart died at 50 Parkhill Road, Klipportje, Germiston.  His children were Removed Smart born probably between 1955 and 1970.  How could we go about tracing these people?  Any thoughts?

Good day,

I know this is many years later, but I am the grand daughter of Ernest and Eileen Smart currently living in South Africa. My name is Joanne Canossa (nee Smart). I dont have too much information on them, but perhaps I can help.
