Aha - then perhaps Goddard was actually his father....& she left Reginald then married Goddard & re-registered the boy under that name - he may not actually be a halfbrother  :-\

That sounds plausible. Getting a copy of the birth cert might give the answer.
In my limited experience of adoption and registration, there is often a reference number hand written in the margin after the original index entry. But if this was done very soon after first registration as an amendment then it could be registered in both names.

Snap, groom  ;)

ADDED but on 192.com that one has a guide age of 40 - 44. The one Gary seeks would be 68  :-\
On FindMyPast he is 40-44 in 2002 and is also 40-44 in 2012-2013

Given the two birth registrations, and what we know of his mother's marriages, I think he will have gone through life with the surname Goddard

I had just added this as a new topic, any help would be welcome, I think the information you have given about my first enquiry has really helped, the other thing I want to know is this:

All the people mentioned on this have passed on,  I am trying to find information about Margaret Jane Tallon. Born approx 1896 and passed on in 1934.  Married to Thomas J Philpot  in 1917and had a son called Reginald Philpot (my Dad) I was lead to believe she came over from Ireland and came from Cavan. She came over with two sisters one of theri names was Kathleen Tallon, she became Edwards, I think my Nan's name was mispelt Tallan. any help any suggestions, I also believe their father was called James.

I would suggest you post a new topic with Margaret's name & dates in the title initially on the Ireland board - it will get more exposure than here.

I note that on freebmd.org her age at death in 1934 was 41 - possibly making her year of birth 1893?? Having said that ages given on death certificates are only as good as the informant's knowledge.

Josey

I have asked a moderator to move Gary's other topic to the Ireland board.

So Gary, you don't need to do anything at the moment. When your other/new thread has been moved, you might want to do as Josey suggests and change your subject heading to mention a name and date, as it is more specific.
