Hi - have you found him on any census?
Could this be him? Ref RG/10/3974-F104

1871 census
Joseph Binns born 1797 Dublin  Royal Engineer Chorlton Union Workhouse Lancashire widower had Elizabeth died by then?
There is also something written before Royal Engineer that I cannot make out.

Lisa - as his marriage to Elizabeth in 1839 was after the start of Civil Registration (his marriage to Esther was too early) - if you obtain that marriage certificate it will give you his father's name.
Places of interest;
Lancashire, West Yorkshire, Southern Ireland, Scotland.

His marriage to Esther is on Ancestry amongst the Manchester (Cathedral) Bishps Transcripts.

On that marriage he is described as a Widower of this parish - a Coach Smith.

Are you sure of the date of the second marriage?
FamilySearch has it as 24th November in Manchester Cathedral.
Likewise, on FreeBMD the marriage is recorded in the 4th quarter of 1839

He Married Ester in 1833/34, She died I think in 1835, this could have been in childbirth and was buried in All Saints. He then married Elizabeth and had 3 further children.

Thanks again for all the help. I should be able to get at My records this weekend, once I do I will add the exact details that I have

Lisa

There appears to be several entries for him going in and out of the Workhouse in Manchester between 1870 and 1877 (when he was 80). These entries are on the Find My Past website (if they are all the same Joseph Binns).

His marriage to Esther was 12/8/1833 - this is the one at Manchester Cathedral.
Places of interest;
Lancashire, West Yorkshire, Southern Ireland, Scotland.
