RE: How to find my father
« on: Thursday 17 December 15 07:36 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
I was adopted when I was a baby, my mother was pregnant when she was 15 years of age. She met my Father at a Dance. He was then a  painter & decorator & 21 years of age. My Mothers family went to see my Fathers family, they moved away from Sheffield while my Mother was Pregnant. My Mother died at the age of 19.
My Mothers name was Gwyneth Harrison. Time has past and I am now 46 years of age with a family. I would like to find my Father and re build all the years we have missed. I have searched for years with no luck. I now live in France. If anyone knows of my Father, please get in touch.

Oh, I love posts like these  :D  but unfortunately I also have to be careful as it is living people :(

The Salvation Army Family Tracing Centre is absolutely BRILLIANT and suggest you speak to them immediately. They are expert researchers with over 100 years' service in tracing long lost family or relatives.

An alternative is: have you tried to find a marriage for a (*) in Sheffield? That would be your first pot of call - then you can search for children to see if they stayed in Sheffield where they had any or if they moved away.

Good luck & best regards,
Jayne.

It would be best to remove the names of people who could still be alive, it is against the policy of RootsChat to display the names of living people.

Have you considered autosomal DNA testing?  There may be half-siblings or cousins out there who don't know you exist or wouldn't know where to find you.  Those folks could potentially lead you to more information about your father.  I believe there may be limitations on doing the testing in France, but maybe if you have occasion to travel to the UK, you could do it there.

It may be wise, if you find your father, to verify that he is biologically related to you.  Unfortunately, I have seen situations where the man believed to be the biological father in fact wasn't.

(The Salvation Army cannot help where adoption has taken place due to UK legislation)
No idea of the origins of this.....but I rang the Salvation Army and although an adopted person is harder to find as there are the possibilties his/her name was changed but they confirmed they can search. They did say they do have guidelines by law they must follow though.

It would be best to remove the names of people who could still be alive, it is against the policy of RootsChat to display the names of living people.
Mhmmm...............this has been brought to my attention by another user, but thanks :)

My comment was aimed at the OP, I had not realized you had compounded the error.  :)
