Margaret Daley
« on: Tuesday 22 December 15 17:04 GMT (UK) »
My Gt Grandfather Patrick Daley, born 1830, last heard of his mother in 1857 whilst he was serving abroad. In 1869 he tried to find her and solicitors tried contacting the Catholic Priest of Castletown, Tipperary but got no response. Did she emigrate? On his Army records he lists his father as John, occupation carpenter. Is there anywhere else I can look? I am already with Ancestry and Find my past.

I would assume she was born around 1820 +\- 5. The only places that are mentioned by Patrick are Cstlehough/Castletown, portroe Tipperary, whether Margaret was born there I don't know

There are records for Castletown here, can't see marriages for his parents guestimate date, but you may get lucky with a baptism, takes some searching!

Hi, Patrick's father was only mentioned briefly when he enrolled in the fusiliers then nothing else about him, but when trying to trace his mother through a solicitor his terminology was, and any comrades, would this have referred to siblings/relations I don't know.

If Patrick was born in 1830, his mother would not likely be born in 1820!   ;)

There is more than one Castletown in Tipperary.
The records for the one near Portroe I think would be found in Portroe Parish
http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0802
Unfortunately they start at 1849.
