What father's occupation is shown on both birth certificates.
Is there a home address on the certificates?
Is it a family address?

i wasn't sure if the dates did match up as all of the American air bases didn't open until after the birth of my father
"In the middle of 1942 the first parties of American Engineers arrived to help build some of the American airfields – such as Debach, Eye and Raydon. An overall workforce of 60,000 men were said to be engaged on airfield construction – each airfield costing about £900,000 to build" -

Just seems a bit odd that if she hadn't married and wasn't actually a widow, why bother to lie, why not marry under her maiden name? Unless it was to cover up the illegitimacy of her children. I wonder if her second husband knew?

Many years ago my Grandmother gave my father an Army service number which didn't exist in records held by the Salvation Army.

When you say an army number do you mean a military army number? If so it has nothing to do with the Salvation army. Do you know the number?

Is there an occupation for Roy Henry Blakeway on the birth certificates for your father and his sister?

yes a military army number, my father has it. I think the Salvation army helped as a missing relative search or something, i,m not sure. But maybe i could search online if that is possible. It has been a few years since he tried so maybe in our era of technology something has improved!
I'm not sure of fathers profession, that is a god point i didn't think of, Thank you for your help.

Wow that's really interesting! Thank you. I didn't realise the American actually built the bases, i assumed it was local workforce.

Also, is the father just named or did he actually sign it as well as the mother? I believe if they both signed, whatever name they used, it meant they weren't married.
