Look Up Request: Oakham Marriages 1858

Greetings, Any help in identifying details regarding the marriage of Mary Loweth to either John Mason or William Whittle in Oakham in 1858 would be greatly appreciated. With many thanks.

Have you looked at the 1861 census as that would tell you which man she married? What was her date of birth?

Many thanks for this.  Later census results are inconclusive as I do not know which Mary Loweth was married in Oakham. Are there parish records for this area that would show parents etc?

Leicestershire & Rutland FHS have transcribed all the parish registers for Rutland but only until 1840.

I'm afraid you will probably have to purchase a copy of the marriage certificate to find the details if you can't work out who she married.  The marriage details would include her father's name.

Its also worth bearing in mind that it may not be a Church of England marriage, it could be non-conformist or even Register Office.

A tree has her down as Matilda ( Mary ) Loweth b 1837 Ketton Rutland father Valentine Loweth
There is this baptism 30/7/1837 Matilda Loweth Ketton Cum Tixover Rutland ..
This might be her in the 1861 census in Somerby Leicestershire
John Mason age 29 b Cottesmore Rutland gardener
Matilda Mason age 23 b Ketton
John William Mason b Somerby age 1
1871 she is down as Mary as housekeeper to a William Woodhouse down as married but husband not there also the same in 1881 she is back as Matilda
Best thing would be to get the marriage certificate to make sure

I would check that out very carefully as you will see that Rosie has said it is from an online tree and we all know how easily they can be wrong! It only needs one person to make an assumption and others follow that. As both Rosie and Smudwhisk say, to be absolutely certain you need to get the marriage cerificate.
