"Arthur Samuel Lamb" born Bilston, 1881.
« on: Sunday 27 December 15 17:39 GMT (UK) »
Hello,
My grt-aunt, Elizabeth Taylor, married Arthur Samuel Lamb on Feb. 21st 1953 at Holy Trinity Church, Ettingshall. On the marriage certificate he was said to have been a widower. I've tried several of the usual sites, but cannot find a certain first marriage - apart from one to a Margaret Christopher in 1907. (This Margaret Lamb was buried in 1937 in Rowley Regis, which was where Arthur was living when he married for the second time, in 1953.)
Does anyone know of any sites where I might confirm details of his first marriage?  :)

Not a lot of help, but an elimination - Rowley Regis comes under WestMidlandsBMD, and there is no marriage at St Giles in 1907, or any other parish church in their list.  Nor is there a marriage in StaffordshireBMD.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Hello BumbleB,
Sorry, I wasn't very clear. Arthur's possible first marriage was recorded at Wolverhampton.
I suspect that they moved away at some time, to live and work, before returning to the area. "Mrs Lamb" died and was buried in Rowley Regis in 1937. I don't know if these are my Lambs!

Arthur's possible first marriage was recorded in the "Wolverhampton Registration District" which does cover Rowley Regis and a variety of other places - if you look at FreeBMD for that marriage entry and then click on Wolverhampton, it will show the area covered by that District.  I was merely trying to help you establish where this marriage might have taken place.  If you can't pin down the location, then you may have to purchase the marriage certificate.

Alternatively have you tried to find Arthur on the 1911 census?  What was his age on his second marriage certificate?

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

I hesitate to give too much information when I first post a new topic.
The only Arthur Lamb born around 1881 in Staffordshire that I could find, was living in Llanelli, with his wife, Margaret and their son Arthur, born in 1908 in Staffordshire.
They had daughters Beatrice and Annie born there.
Arthur was shown as 72, and a widower, at his second marriage in 1953.

Hi,
Thanks for your responses.
I've picked up those "sightings" - but I've resisted getting too confident because I have no proof that my Arthur Lamb married Margaret Christopher. It's already been said - and I agree, the best way forward is to purchase a copy of their marriage cert.
I was rather hoping that someone, somewhere, would say, "yes, I know who that is!"
Thanks
(Incidentally, I also have Baggotts from Kingswinford in my Tree.)
