14 Briery Vale Road, Ashbrooke, Sunderland

In the 1930's my grandparents ran a shop from 14 Briery Vale Road, Ashbrooke, Sunderland. It was a grocers shop and Bakery.

Their names were John (William) and Wilhelmina (Mina) Reed. They later lived in Holmlands Park but still had their shop.

Can anyone tell me anything about it please or where I could find out about it.

Yes, 14 seems to have the shop Windows blocked out. But saw it a few years ago like this too. Don't know when the Google pictures were taken.

I have now looked for more mentions in the papers and have found a few Ads which give me an idea about when they moved there.

Do you know if they were in any Trade Directories for that period which would be from the mid 1920's through the 1930's.

There are directories but not online, they are held by Sunderland Local Studies Library http://www.sunderland.gov.uk/index.aspx?articleid=5572
Trade directories
Although not complete, this collection dates from the 1820s to the early 1960s.

It goes through quite a few dates - I think there may be other members of the family in them. However I am not close enough to look straight away. Maybe at a later date.

Just wondering if they have copies of these at The National Archives at Kew.
