John Hibbard or Joseph Hibbard

Any thoughts appreciated please on my enquiry into my Maternal line of my family history research.
From the Declaration of Marriage of My Great Great Grandmother Esther Hibbard marriage to her third husband Robert Fing on 1st October 1918, gives her Father as John Hibbard, a Storeman late of Battersea, England. Her Mother is listed as Sarah Martin.

From the 1881 English Census there is a listing for Esther Hibbard, 7 years old but Father is listed as Joseph Hibbard not John. Could John be interchangeable for Joseph? and could this be Esthers family? and what happened to Sarah Hibbard nee Martin.

Thank You for your suggestion and it all helps to reread all the posts for refreshers on the families however I am trying to concentrate on the parents to establish a line further back on Sarah in particular.Cheers

Maybe she was the illegitimate daughter of Sarah Martin?

Checking FreeBMD for marriages, the only potential Sarah Martin marriage I can find ro a Hibberd/t is:
Mar qtr 1879
Lambeth Registration District
Martin, Sarah Jane
+ and on the same page +
Hibbett, Edward

I looked at 1850 onwards?


Incidentally, for those looking, the 3rd marriage was in Sydney, Australia!

Hello,
You haven't given a year of birth for Esther.
The family you quote are transcribed as Hebbird in 1871 and Joseph's wife is Mary F.
It doesn't look to be your family.

Yes indeed she may have been illegitimate!

Esther was born about 1873 as established from her record of transport to Australia on 18th June 1892, described as 20 years of age, as well as her own admissions of age on her marriage declaration in 1918 , being 45 years of age which would fit with the record of shipping. Not a birth record but there it is.
