I think we can rule that one out, as his mother's maiden name was Etchells and there is a  Poulton/Etchells marriage in 1945, but not Leslie! Looks as if there are other children from that marriage as well.

It is possible that he wasn't registered as a Poulton.

That's lovely for your father in law, just a pity it was too late. Perhaps her family will be able to shed a bit more light on the mysterious Barry, even if it was to give a rough idea when he was born.

hes just said, all he knows is his mother wanted nothing to do with barry as he was not a very nice person! so maybe its time to leave it there? his mother may have known more, but sadly he does not. i dont know, it would be nice to know some details of him even if we never contact him. liz.

The problem is that without a rough idea of date and place of birth and without knowing if he was registered as a Poulton or under his mother's name, it is almost impossible. No obvious ones come up under Poulton on Freebmd and there are far too many with his first name to even take a guess without any more details.

Perhaps it is better to leave it and concentrate on the family you have found, you never know they may suddenly remember something. The fact they have replied quickly and sent photos sounds hopeful, after all, they have discovered a half uncle they didn't know about and your father has discovered a half nephew.

Glad to have been of help.

Anytime, you're welcome.

It really was a stroke of luck finding her, then after that everything fell into place. I'm really pleased you were able to make contact with the family.
