Freyer Family in Galway
« on: Monday 04 January 16 23:17 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for some information on Peter Johnson Freyer (born 1795) and some family members of his. This gentleman is not to be confused with his grandson Sir Peter Johnson Freyer who was born and raised in Galway.

After retiring as a chief officer in the Coast Guard, Peter settled in Clifden in about 1851 after the death of his first wife.

My questions are as follows:
1. When and where did Peter die? I can't find any online records of his death and I know he lived to at least 1867 when he was living in Sallerna.

2. He married Maria Louisa Bodkin in 1852 but she must have died soon after as he married again in 1856 to Mary Penner. I can't find any online records of their deaths or whether they had any children. He married Mary Penner in Aughavaul, Mayo, so they may have lived there for a while.

3. Celia Freyer (nee Burke) was the wife of Samuel Freyer and was born around 1833 and was still alive in 1920 as she was receiving an allowance from her son Sir Peter Johnson Freyer. Unfortunately I cannot find any record of her death. Her last known whereabouts was Cloughacurra.

I hope someone can help me find some of this missing information from my family tree.

Steve

Link for Civil Registration Indexes.

Registration of Births and Deaths commenced in 1864.   Non Catholic Marriages from 1845.  In the early years of compulsory registration, many events still were not recorded.

What religious denomination were they?

I haven't had any luck tracking these peoples on the indexes. All people were Church of Ireland except for Celia Freyer who stayed Catholic for her whole life and is apparently buried in the Catholic Cemetry somewhere near Clifden.
