Bateman / Northern Ireland/ Melisina Bateman 1850
« on: Thursday 07 January 16 13:32 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I'm new here. I am trying to research Melisina Bateman born circa 1850, who married William Turner on 17/1/1867 in Ballinderry, Londonderry, Ireland. The marriage certificate has her father as Michal Bateman.

I don't have Melisina's date of birth, her mother or any siblings. The census 1901 has her place of birth as co Waterford (which I am assuming is in Northern Ireland)

Hopefully someone on roots chat has the same family and have more details?

Can you post the link to the Census?
Give a man a record and you feed him for a day.
Teach a man to research, and you feed him for a lifetime.

The 1867 marriage took place in Tamlaght O'Crilly Upper Church of Ireland, notwithstanding that Melesina was noted as a minor, her occupation was recorded as teacher, she was living at the time in "Killygullib" (Glebe, the townland?), and her father Michael Bateman was described as a farmer.

BTW, County Waterford is nowhere near the marriage and 1901 / 1911 census locations, it is in (today) the Republic of Ireland, not Northern Ireland, it depends where specifically in County Waterford, but you are probably talking a couple of hundred miles distance.

Griffiths Valuation has 3 Waterford Bateman entries of which there are 2 references to Michael Batemans in the townlands of:

- Ballynagaulemore (Ballynagaul More), in the civil parish of Ringagonagh;
- Helvick, also in the civil parish of Ringagonagh.

Print date for that area was 1851 (on the money for Mel(l)isina's birth):

And the 1901 census shows a family still in the Helvick area, I wonder if related:

BTW, just wondering Irish Finder, what relation is Mel(l)isina to you and what other family information do you have ? (ie. to avoid any nugatory effort)  :)

I noticed a few other posts:

Are these folks connected to your family? Do we need to factor them in to our searches?
