Benjamin Brittain was not born Downham.   He is shown as 'of this parish' when he married there in 1817 but this just means he was living there at the time (not that he was a native of the parish).

There are no Brittain baptisms in Downham between 1791 and 1827 - the parish records are on familysearch.

The only other Brittain in Downham at the same time was a Samuel shown on census as bc.1792 Thorney, Cambridgeshire.   He was bp.1/4/1792 Thorney, son of Samuel and Sarah.  Thought perhaps he was a brother of Benjamin so looked for a baptism for Benjamin at Thorney but no joy I'm afraid.  Also, no Brittain burials at Downham before the arrival of Benjamin and Samuel.

Thomas Waddelow bp.13/10/1776 Downham, son of William and Elizabeth
Mary Cole bp.31/5/1778 Downham, dau. of George and Rose.

All these baptisms are on familysearch (which should always be your first port of call) but, alas, can find nothing for a Benjamin Brittain ca.1795 anywhere in Cambridgeshire.

I have many Brittains among my ancestors, though not a Benjamin, and the family was very prolific in Bedfordshire:  Langford, Colmworth, Biggleswade, etc.
The name suffers from many spelling variations, have you tried Britten, Britain, etc.?
How did you get back to your Benjamin b. 1795?

Benjamin Brittan bc.1796 bur.4/2/1835 Downham, Cambridgeshire.

His widow Elizth Brittan is in Downham in 1841 with Mary 20, William 15, Benjamin 13, Sarah 10 and Tabitha 7.   The younger 4 children all baptised together at Downham on 23/7/1837.

Family still there in 1851 so not the family in London.
