Searching for my grandad
« on: Saturday 09 January 16 12:26 GMT (UK) »
His name is jack wheeler and used to live in Wimbledon London? But not sure.
Unfortunately I've never met him and don't have anymore information.
His eldest daughter my mother's name is (*) wheeler/Giles married name.
Her date of birth is October 18th bit not sure about year.
Is there anyone out there who could help me find him or that knows of him please.

Welcome to Rootschat, Amanda.

Using Freebmd, it looks as if your mother was born in 1943, so if she is still alive you need to remove her name from your post as Rootschat doesn't allow living people to be mentioned. The same with your grandfather I'm afraid, if you think he is still alive.

If you look at Freebmd http://www.freebmd.org.uk/   you can find your mother's birth and that will tell you her mother's maiden name. Her birth certificate would give you more information about her parents. There were quite a few births with his name in London, some have middle initials.

Does the address 18 Hammond House, Tiller Road, Poplar mean anything to your family?

I had a look at the electoral registers for 1965 and John Robert & Lilian Grace Wheeler were resident there.

Based on his name there, I found a possible birth in 1921 in Stepney District and then a possible death in East Surrey in 2001.

If you need copy of your mothers birth cert, the reference numbers are here

You really need to speak to other members of the family to check this information out or buy the certificates from the General Register Office www.gro.gov.uk
