census lookup please. 1841/1851
« on: Monday 11 January 16 11:14 GMT (UK) »
Hi. I am looking for John William Miller born 1812 St Mary Lambeth. His father was Elisha Miller [cheesemonger] and mother Edith, although by 1841 he probably would not be with them [If he lived that long. I have not established if he survived. ???Many thanks

Problem is that it is quite a common name and there are several John Williams born Lambeth in the 1851. Assuming he used his middle name, this could be him.

Thank you. I appreciate your help with such limited info. I might try looking for a marriage to an Elizabeth. Fathers name should be on that. It will eliminate or confirm.
Cheers

If that is him, Elizabeth was Elizabeth Robbins. Marriage might be before 1837 which will also make it harder!

Unfortunately you are unlikely to find a father's name on a marriage before July 1837.

Interestingly an Elisha Miller, aged 77 was also buried in Norwood Cemetery in 1866. This could be John William's father.

If it's possible to check the death registers for Norwood -- they MAY just be buried in the same grave.

A John William Miller married an Elizabeth Robbins at St John the Evangelist, Westminster on 19 June 1834. He was a Batchelor and she was a Spinster. (London Marriages on Ancestry).

Sadly -- the parish record does NOT show his occupation, nor the father's names.
