Not sure which Board to post this on so if a Mod feels it should be moved that's OK.
My Great-Great Uncle, William Gibb, has always been a bit of a brick wall. Born in Tulliallan in 1897 he was a merchant seaman who married an Italian lady, Luisa Lucchi in 1920 in Port Said. They had three children in Palestine and, until today, I had no trace of where, or when he died.
He became Harbour Master of Haifa during the 1930s and I have found details of his tenure at Haifa at National Archives. But he disappears during the 1930s - I can find a couple of records of his entering/leaving UK during 1930s but nothing until he's listed as deceased on his daughter's wedding certificate in 1947.
By chance I happened on a copy of the Palestine Gazette (hosted on an Israeli Law Firm's site!) that indicates he died in Jaffa, Palestine in 1944.
Any ideas on where I would go to find a death record/more details? He was a Civil Servant employed by HMG and had a rank of Captain (not sure which service).
Any help gratefully received as ever.
As an aside it does pay to keep googling the same phrases as I've used the same phrase regularly over the last few years with no luck until today - growing amounts of material being indexed daily.
Thanks in advance.
