My cousin who was Thomas' great granddaughter said something about having a family sheet of paper with 1881 Census information on it, giving his date of birth as 1867, this leads me to think that the John Thirwell answer is correct.

But you really need his birth/marriage certificate to prove this is the right person

I've been debating ordering the marriage certificate all day- it is a hefty expense though.

I'm afraid there are times when you just have to 'bite the bullet' and purchase a certificate.

Anderson is too common a surname to guess at anything and, unfortunately, details of his marriage to Alice are not available online (just the index entry).

The certificate came today. Thomas is listed as a fruiterer aged 23 years, father Thomas Anderson a farmer deceased.
