George GOULDBY, b abt 1801, Kessingland

Looking for George's parents, please.

George married Mary STROWGER at Kessingland, 28 January 1828. Their first son, also George, was born 1828 and they went on to have other children, living at Kessingland in all census entries, with the children's birthplaces (and George's) always given as Kessingland, so I guess they didn't stray far!  George was a fisherman.

I have lots of information about this family but cannot find a baptism for George, nor a marriage certificate for him and Mary which might give his father's name.

Sometimes the name is spelt Goldby, Golby, Goulby   

Any info gratefully received.

Suffolk Marriage Index has Mary listed as Strowger, although George's surname is listed as Goulty.  Possibly a better bet on accuracy than Familysearch.

I'm satisfied that George and Mary were married in January 1828, and that Mary's surname is STROWGER, (baptised Benacre 1804; daughter of William STROWGER and Sarah BULLING). 

What I'm hoping for is some parentage for George.

I would certainly agree with Smudwisks comments on the FS transcript accuracy. 

I doubt that you will get the parentage of George from his marriage. Fathers names were not required until registration from 1837.

There are some Gouldby children baptised in Kessingland to James and Hannah that may be George's siblings

Robert 13th May 1811
Edward 4th June 1809
William 12th ay 1805 (says mother Ann)
James 18th August 1799

Do the witnesses to George and Mary's marriage provide any clues?

Thanks sgf28 - how annoying that there is no George in the list!  This family used the same forenames across generations and for brothers and their children so sometimes they are a bit tricky to disentangle.

I wish I had access to the names of the witnesses, smudwhisk.  Suffolk doesn't seem particulary well represented for on-line records
