Walter Spencer Stanhope
« on: Friday 15 January 16 14:41 GMT (UK) »
I have a obit from papers past that states that Capt Walter Spencer Stanhope died in 1908 in Auckland, it gives no other details other than he had been in Auckland about 10 years and had originally settled on Little Barrier Island. I would love to find out where he is buried and any other information. Any help or pointers would be appreciated

Gillian

And here is the information one can expect to find on a death registration, providing of course the information was known to the informant..........

The funeral directors invoices for C Little and Sons Ltd are all held at the Sir George Grey Special Collections reading room on the 2nd floor of the Auckland Central Library in Lorne Street, there is a card index from 1901 to 1936 for these across in the  Central Auckland Research Centre.
These have all the same information as a death printout,

Cheers Janette

Hi Gillian

Following is a transcription (of a transcription) from Purewa Cemetery, Auckland.

Walter Spencer STANHOPE
Age :  45 *
Occupation:   Imperial Service
Born c. 1863 * in Yorkshire, England
Last Residence:  Asylum
Possible cause of death:    Mental paralysis
Buried (at Purewa Cemetery) :   20 October 1908

"Walter Spencer STANHOPE - second son of Sir Walter Spencer STANHOPE, KCB, Cannon Hall. Yorkshire, late Captain 19th Hussars.
born 17 November 1861* - died 19 October 1908.
Undertaker:  C. Little
 ------------------

*My notes:   Some discrepancies in various records re: this man's birth year.   "17 November 1861" is probably correct ?  (Will see if there's baptism/christening record).
