Ketterick
« on: Tuesday 19 January 16 19:59 GMT (UK) »
Could someone dig up some info on this family.
It's part of my wife's mother's family that I looked into years ago but it was sidelined and never restarted.
I think most of the family settled in the Stirling and Cowie areas.

Cheers

1901, again as 'Kettrick'

Living at 21 Devon Square, Alloa, Clackmannanshire

Catherine, age 61, widow, born Stirling
Children: Catherine, age 21, Mill Worker Feeder, born Alloa
James, age 20, Coal Miner, born Clackmannanshire

There seems to be some confusion as to where Devon Square actually is (not mentioning the confusion over places of birth!)

Your post didn't click until now.

Baptised "K"atherine Dochart was the wife and mother, daughter of James/Janet Maxwell b 1837 Kincardine, she had a sister Mary and a brother Peter.  Her sister Mary married William Gillespie in Denny in 1861.  Peter was married twice, he was found in the Clyde in 1901.

I'm a distant relative of Mary's via the Gillespie line.  If you wish any of the BMD documents I have on the Dochart's send me a PM with your email address and I will send them your way.

Don
I have turned off all email notifications, thank you.

Hello Anne, Nice to hear from you again.
Thank you for all that interesting info.
They seem to have had problems in remembering their ages.
In the ten years between 1871 and 1881 Catherine has only aged by 5 years.
The next 10 year period she ages by 13 years and then it's another 13 years.
And James being the second son with that name. Brill that you picked that out.
According to Google Earth, there is no such place as Devon Square
Very confusing.

...A great big thanks to you.   :)

Don...Any info you can give me on the Dochart's would be great. Also with any info on Catherine's siblings. I think the name Dochart is still used as a middle name by some of the Kettrick family.
I will try and get my email address to you.

With thanks.

               Robert.

You're very welcome Fergie!

There's LOADS of Kettericks/Kettricks in and around Clackmannanshire, so if you want details, just give me a shout.

Regarding the discrepancies in ages etc., - only the original images would verify the details as these transcriptions are notoriously unreliable. I believe there was a Devon Square in Sauchie, but then again, there's the Devonvale area at Tilli? Who knows?!!
Where ever it was, Clackmannan being the 'Wee County', all these villages are only a few miles apart anyway.

I think the following is son John, his wife, kids and some extras:

1891, Living at Argyle Street, High Church, Paisley
Head, William McCamley, Widower, age 33, Iron Monger, born Ayr
Children: Susan B., age 8, born Glasgow
JL (son), age 5, born Glasgow
William, age 3, born Paisley
Agnes Lindsay, niece, age 10, born Maybole
John Ketterick, Rail Porter/Visitor, age 31, born Stirling
Jane Ketterick, Visitor, age 29, born Maybole
Edward Ketterick, Visitor's son, age 2, born Paisley
William Ketterick, Visitor's son, age 1, born Paisley

Then .....

1901, Living at 7 Barclay Street, Paisley
Head John Kettreck, Rail Porter, age 41, born Clackmannanshire
Wife Jane, age 39, born Maybole
Children: Edward, age 12, born Paisley
William, age 11, born Paisley
John, age 8, born Paisley
Maggie, age 3, born Paisley
Kate, age 9 months, born Paisley
And
Agnes McCamley, age 21, Thread Mill Worker (Spooler), niece, born Maybole
Susan McCamley, age 18, Cotton Spinner, niece, born Glasgow
John McCamley, age 15, Railway Clerk, nephew, born Glasgow
Jane McCamley, age 14, Thread Mill Worker (Spooler), niece, born Glasgow
William McCamley, age 13, nephew, born Paisley

Hi Folks,

I would imagine "Tilli" would be Tillicoultry which is pronounced "Tillicootry"
