Lily ILEY born 1884 North Shields. Northumberland

Looking to trace the parents of my great grandmother LILY ILEY born in North Shields, Northumberland in 1884. Have found some information which is shown below (most recent first) but seem to have hit the proverbial brick wall.

1911 census - Living in Sunderland with husband John Copeland and family. Original census return was manually altered, almost certainly incorrectly, which suggested the two families recorded were related.

1904 marriage transcript - JOHN COPELAND to LILY ILEY in Sunderland.

1901 census - Lily was living with her uncle (Joseph Reed, born 1865) in Easington, Durham. This assumption is based on the year and place of her birth match. Joseph Reed was living with his grandmother on the 1871 and 1881 census'. On the 1891 census he was boarding with the Lumsden family.

1891 census - CAN'T FIND ANY DEFINITIVE CENSUS INFORMATION FOR LILY ILEY WHEN SEARCHING DURHAM, EASINGTON, SUNDERLAND or NORTHUMBERLAND AREA RETURNS.

1884 birth transcription - NO PARENTS NAMES DETAILED.

Based on the 1901 census my best guess is John Reed (uncle) must have had a sister who married someone called ILEY. I have tried a general British search for a marriage between REED and ILEY again without success.

Can anyone shed any light on Lily's parents please or point me in the right direction please.

Hi

If you look at the family below Joseph REED on the 1871 Census, you will see Robert REED and two sons, Robert and William.  The elder Robert is most likely Joseph's father, as a Robert REED married an Elizabeth BAISTER.

I cannot however see any daughters for Robert REED, who could have married an ILEY and produced Lily, thus making Joseph her uncle. Unless of course he was her Great Uncle, which just makes it even more tangled.

These transcriptions only contain sufficient information to enable you to purchase a copy of the birth cert.  They never contain parental info.  Births on freebmd from the September qtr of 1911 show mothers maiden name only

Possibility she may have been illegitimate but you need to buy a copy of her birth cert to be certain

A Sarah Iley married Edward Wiseman in 1885 in Tynemouth - just to bear in mind when you get the birth cert

On the 1901 Census it shows Joseph REED to be married. Could Lily ILEY be his wife's niece??
