Northill baptisms 1853 for 6 SMITHS on one day
« on: Wednesday 20 January 16 11:24 GMT (UK) »
Hi All,

I'm trying to trace my SMITH branch (really!) and have 10 children of John and Rhoda SMITH but 6 of them were baptised on 25 Sept 1853 (Ancrusty & Family).

I've only been able to find the index transcripts and I was wondering if any of you Rootsters have access to the images as I'm suspecting so many baptisms on the same day would include their DOBS.  I'm also hoping to find John SMITHs occupation.

And then I have 2 Charles SMITHs and I'm looking for the fathers occupation:
Charles SMITH bapt 15 Apr 1838 John & Rhoda SMITH
Charles SMITH bapt 8 Oct 1838 George & Frances SMITH

Many thanks

Hi
Firstly no luck with images.
But the John and Rhoda Smith was an agricultural  labourer
Charles s of George and Frances is on the NBI 14.10.1838 (must him as the other is with john and Rhoda on the census).

Hi Ciderdrinker,

Thanks for your answer.  Smiths are somewhat tricky and there are two births in 1838 for Biggleswade, one Charles William Q1 and one Charles Q4 and baptisms of Apr and Oct. But then there are two deaths, one the Charles you mention above but then another for Charles William 25 Nov 1838, both aged 0! And Frances looks like she was buried 23 Sep 1838 so I was hoping the actual images might shed some light on the matter.

Looks like a trip to Beds archive unless anybody knows where else the images are available?

Thanks again,

Usually if a date of birth as well as the baptism date is shown in the parish register it's also transcribed on the IGI.

In 1841 the three children of John and Rhoda were Thomas 6, Charles 4, John 1 mth. In 1851 their children were Thomas 16, Charles 13, John 10, Sarah 7, Lucy 5, Noah 3, Hannah 7 mths. These should give a clue about the 1853 baptisms.

In censuses John was an ag lab.

Rhoda was née Sabey, and appears in my own tree although not direct line. I've done a lot of research on the Sabeys of Mid and North Beds over the years, but not on this Smith family. I've traced your Sabey line back to c1675 in Colmworth.

Microfilms of Northill parish register are also available to order from and view at your nearest LDS Family History Centre. Depending on where you live one might be closer than Bedford Archives

That 2nd burial... the NBI has that done in Campton/Shefford, he's aged 10 months

** Also the Beds FHS can sell you a transcription of the Northill PRs on CD for £15 (not images), check out their website **

Well hello great cousin Bedfordshire Boy!

Well I think we've vaguely related as I'm connected through Charles son of John hence my trying to pin down these records and prove Rhoda was my GGGGGrandmother.

I'm not a million miles from Beds so think that will be easier for me and I may be able to check out some other bits while I'm there.

Thanks as ever

Fionaohsomanyrellies

Just seen the message about the 2nd burial - thanks for that as I think it ties up the Charles William quite nicely.
