William Goodall Who were his parents?
« on: Friday 22 January 16 19:08 GMT (UK) »
William Goodall, according to census was born c1811 Shirley Derbyshire. His death 21 Dec 1896 gives his age as 86.
His first marriage to Mary Severn, took place 4 Oct 1835 In Leicester where he was living. It was by banns but the witnesses are of no help as they appear to be workmates.
His 2nd marriage was to Eleanor Sophie Poulton 27 March 1880 in Bournemouth Hants, This marriage gave his father's name as Robert.
There is a baptism in Shirley for William Goodall son of Robert & Hannah 14 Oct 1810.
This is where I get into speculation about Robert, there is a marriage for Robert Goodall to Hannah Worton 30 Dec 1802 Stapenhill Derbys.
A Robert (born 1776 Hollington Derbys) & Hannah (born 1776 Linton Derbys) Goodall living in Hinckley Leics in 1851 along with daughter Hannah Maria born 1823 Shirley Derbys. Robert dies
15 Aug 1859 in Hinckley aged 87.Hannah & Hannah Maria go to live in Shirley Derbys some time after 1861.Hannah dies 8 April 1865 aged 88 and Hannah Maria marries Frederick Gregory 14 April 1869.
Are William & Hannah Maria brother and sister? There should be more children but I can't find them.
To further complicate matters there is another Robert Goodall born Shirley within the right time frame,he is a publican but I am fairly sure he is not my ancestor.
Suggestions criticisms any ideas welcome.

Do you think the other children are the Edlaston baptisms?

From here

http://www.rootschat.com/links/01gwj/

after the first name, there are a few baptisms with William's including a Hannah Maria Goodall 1808.
There are a couple or so at Crich, but wondered whether you recognised the names and if you knew which children were possibly associated with the other Robert in the hope of helping you recognise your family.

What was the name of the other Robert's wife? If it was Hannah, you can't rule him out.
I am Australian, from all the lands I come (my ancestors, at least!)

Pine/Pyne, Dowdeswell, Kempster, Sando/Sandoe/Sandow, Nancarrow, Hounslow, Youatt, Richardson, Jarmyn, Oxlade, Coad, Kelsey, Crampton, Lindner, Pittaway, and too many others to name.
Devon, Dorset, Gloucs, Cornwall, Warwickshire, Bucks, Oxfordshire, Wilts, Germany, Sweden, and of course London, to name a few.

Thank you for your interest.
Willsy, I l had forgotten about the Edlaston baptisms, I remember thinking they might be the same family, but there was nothing to help me decide one way or another.
pinefamily, the other Robert's wife was Mary, they married 1815 so it was possible that this was a 2nd marriage for my Robert, but they had a son William born 1818, so it seems unlikely.
