Blackrock/Patrick Halpin - Death
« on: Sunday 24 January 16 03:15 GMT (UK) »
Looking for my grand uncle, and Godfather, Patrick Halpin aka Paddy.  Born 1909 in Blackrock to Edward & Mary (Bolger) Halpin. Married Ilene/Eileen.  He lived and died in England but I don't know where or when.  Thank you.

Hello Radcliff,

Offhand I don't know when Paddy was last heard from.  Let me ask my cousin as I believe she may know.  DOD may be right... My father returned to Ireland in 1968 and I think my cousin may know if Paddy was still alive at that time.

Thanks again for your help.  I'll be back.   :)

Hello Radcliff,

Gosh, I'm sorry it's taken me so long to return.  I was waiting for information from a cousin and then I couldn't find my way back to this thread (I'm still learning).

My cousin tells me my uncle Paddy was not alive when my father returned to Ireland in 1968.  So, the death recorded in 1975 in Trafford is not him...  Would you help me look further?  Paddy was married to Eileen and had no children.

Thank you!

When you say Patrick was your Godfather -- where was this please? England or Ireland?

Also -- when he married Eileen/Ilene -- do you know whether this was in England or Ireland?

I have just had a quick look on the 1939 Register -- I cannot see a Patrick Halpin with an Eileen/Ilene on there - so maybe he came to England after then (unless of course he has been mis-transcribed on that register.
Places of interest;
Lancashire, West Yorkshire, Southern Ireland, Scotland.

There are only 5 people named 'Eileen Halpin' who are listed on the Deaths Civil Reg Index in England. Most had an additional christian name.

The Registration Districts were;
Stoke on Trent
Kensington and Chelsea
Birmingham
Barrow in Furness
Havering

Looking for a death of a Patrick Halpin born about 1909 there are 7 deaths -- all had an additional christian name --- some are after the one already found by Radcliff, which you think is too late.

None seem to be in the same Registration District as Eileen.

Have you found Patrick on the 1911 Irish census please? Did he have another christian name on that census?

This census is free to search at;

Places of interest;
Lancashire, West Yorkshire, Southern Ireland, Scotland.

I think I have the correct Patrick Halpin on the 1911 census - he doesn't have any other name.  Denomination is Roman Catholic which might help to narrow down baptism records to check whether there was a baptismal name added too.
