I am sure that Robert MacMillan Ross was born in South Africa. I have two death notices for him one they call a civil death notice and the normal one. Both have him born in the Cape Town.
Hi Karen,
Can you tell us who the informant was on Robert's death cert. please?
The info. on any death cert. is only as good as the informant i.e. may not always be accurate but "as far as they knew or assumed" to be correct so you need to allow for any misgivings & contemplate other avenues.
There is also the possibility that Robert was born to a previous marriage or illegitimate, born MacMillan & when James & Isabella married the surname Ross added......these things happen.
The other thing is ages, which you need to allow a couple of years (or more) either side as they too are not always accurate for that period.
