Eric Henry Clifford 1916-1993

Dear All,
My father passed away in 1993 and it was at this time that we (the family) discovered that he was adopted at the age of 14years which he did not tell us about.  The Lady that adopted him was a Mary Clifford who was 60 years old at the time of adoption and a widow at the time.  I have been trying to find out who my fathers biological mother was since that the date of his death but to no avail.  Has anyone any ideas on how I may do this.  I have his adoption certificate and birth certificate issued by the registrars office which has no information on at all.

If you have the birth cert that should give the parent's/mother's name
unless you have a shortened form of the birth certificate

Is Mary Clifford named as (adoptive) mother on adoption cert?

What is Eric's full name on the birth certificate?

Are you certain you have the original birth cert? A shortened cert could be in his adopted name -as shortened certs for adopted and original certs look very similar -neither give parents names.
Who did Eric give as father on marriage?

Where did Eric grow up??

Do you have his birth reg?

If he died in Nottingham district in 1993 then his dob was 25th April 1916, if he was adopted at 14yrs old I would think he might have kept his Christian names.
Narrows it down on Freebmd (Eric H  Jun 1916) but still a lot of possibilities.

I now know my reply never went so here we go again.
1.  Yes he was in the Navy CPO (S) E.H. Clifford P/JX137194
2.  Yes his d.o.b. is 25th April 1916
3.  His father's name on certificate is Henry Clifford which is Mary's deceased husband.
4.  Mary is on the adoption certificate listed as a Bathing Attendant.
5.  Place of birth listed as Portsmouth on the adoption cert.

I hope all the above helps in some way, I do have copies of his navy cert. which you are welcome to view and of course his adoption cert.

He might well have taken the name of his adopted Henry on his marriage cert
