Born abroad - where is birth certificate?

If Scottish people were living abroad (in Switzerland) and had a child, where would that child's birth be registered in the UK system? Edinburgh? London?

ScotlandsPeople also have the 'foreign returns' which date from 1860 onwards, and consular returns from 1914 onwards.

Finding a UK birth certificate would depend on whether they registered the birth at the British Consulate / Embassy -- it was not compulsory to do so

There could well be a Swiss birth certificate somewhere in the Swiss system tho
Wainwright - Yorkshire

Watson -  Northamptonshire
Trant - Yorkshire
Helps - all
Needham - Derbyshire
Waterhouse - Derbyshire
Northing - all

Also try here - https://familysearch.org/search/collection/1520585?collectionNameFilter=false

If you need an official certificate you should check on the Switzerland section as to the additional information you will receive. It will be expensive - modern ones are over £20. You may also have to apply to the Canton.
