Missing from 1871 and 1881 census
« on: Wednesday 27 January 16 10:02 GMT (UK) »
My great gran was Elizabeth Williams born 5 Dec 1869 at 58 Highgate St(area of West Derby). Mother Mary Jones registered her birth on7 Jan 1870, father not given and her address then 14 Montpellier Terr. Parliament St Liverpool. Elizabeth is fully traceable from 1891 to 1939 marrying William Holtom in 1888. Her address at the time of marriage was 7 Church Road Seaforth so I am confident she didn't leave Liverpool until after 1891. I have looked for a 1 year old EW living with mother Mary Jones in Liverpool and then the same 10 years later. Wondering if Mary gave up her daughter and EW lived in another family? I would love to find Mary but I have no info and can't trace address only. I think she moved about a lot! Can anyone help please?

Have you tracked down any family of Mary Jones, Elizabeth's mother?

That would be my first port of call, to find all the relatives I could to see if baby Elizabeth was there.

And I should point out that although she was born in West Derby and married in Liverpool, there is no reason why she shouldn't have been anywhere else in the country in the interim, and only returned home shortly before her marriage......

never easy, these rellies.

7 Church Road Seaforth was the home of the Mogford family (Francis & Charlotte - Charlotte is a widow by 1891) throughout the 1880's. They had a servant named Ellen Jones from Llanrwst, Caernarvonshire (aged 38 in 1881 and 48 in 1891). In 1881 there is also an 11 year old servant named Eliz Jones, born Liverpool. Could be your Elizabeth?

Thank you Shaun J, all this looks very promising as both addresses feature on my documents for Mary and Elizabeth. I have a bit more detail about Mary now and another Welsh connection. Elizabeth's daughter, my gran, married a Welsh farmer who had moved to Accrington Lancs from Guilsfield Montgom. Welsh blood on boths sides now! Thanks again, Sue.

Hello Shaun J. I have been able to view 1871 census showing Mary Jones at Montpellier Terrace but I can't find the Mogford's or Mary and Elizabeth anywhere in 1881. There aren't any traces for Mogford in 1881 on Find my past. Do you know the reason for this? Are you looking at different records? Thank you anyway. Sue
