Thomas Hunt

Help required.
I'm researching a Thomas Hunt who states he was born in Broseley Shropshire in 1844 on the 1871 census. He has never appeared on any other census'es before or since. He married Bridget Dowd in 1868 in Madeley Shropshire. She appears on a 1881 census and previous ones before she married.I can't find a death record for either of them.Their children especially Thomas born Broseley 1878 appears on a 1891 census in Staffordshire with his other siblings but his mother is now called Mary aged about the same as Bridget. Can't find a marriage cert if his father remarried. No other Mary's in the family only young Thomas's sister Mary A but she would be to young.I think the father Thomas was possibly born in Ireland but he seems to have vanished with Bridget.

Hi
I can see it was a Civil marriage in 1868. Have you got the certificate to see who fathers  and occupations were ?
Witnesses are also sometimes a clue.

Yes I've seen this thats why i think he was born Ireland and not Broseley. After 1871 he disappears nad Bridget disappears after 1881.But can't work out who Mary Hunt is.Unless Bridget & Mary are the same person

I would say that Bridget and Mary are the same person.

She becomes 'Mary' after the death of her mother with whom they'd lived - perhaps she never liked the name, who knows.

Her age tends to fluctuate somewhat over the various census but by 1891 they had moved to Cannock, Staffordshire.   A Mary B. Hunt bc.1847 died Dec.qtr.1917 Cannock and I think this could well be her (she was still alive in 1911) - possibly for Mary Bridget Hunt!!

I don't know what the situation was with miners who were away working on census night but I would guess this is why he can't be found 1861 and 1881.

The family already posted for 1851 would definitely appear to be your Thomas Hunt's I think.

He was possibly the Thomas Hunt aged 37 d.Dec.1881 Burton on Trent, Staffordshire.   Different district to Cannock I know - no more children after son Thomas bc.1879 which would suggest to me a death date for Thomas senior not long after the 1881 census.

I think this may be his birth/baptism record

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:NVDR-K9N

his sister Eleanor appears to have been baptized at the same time
