John Clark
« on: Friday 29 January 16 11:26 GMT (UK) »
Okay I know this may be a long shot but I wonder if anyone can help me.
I'm trying to look for any information about my Great Grandfather John Clark.

I don't have a lot of information but I came across my Grandmothers Birth Certificate (Jean Elizabeth Scott Clark 1932-1984 Born in Adelaide, South Australia)

Which States her Father As:
John Clark
1888 Lanarkshire, Scotland.

and her mother
Doris Louise Bottom
1895 Adelaide, South Australia

I've been speaking to my grandmothers brother and have found out that John and Doris died within a year of each other and have found that Doris died in 1944 but have found nothing about the elusive John Clark, could it be cause his name is so common? Can anyone help me please??

Hi ,

Looks like John Clark and Doris Louise Bottom were married in Adelaide in 1915.

Not sure if that certificate would give you their parents names  :-\

Possible Army record here - http://www.naa.gov.au/collection/search/index.aspx

Use the Recordsearch with the words JOHN CLARK DORIS

Place of birth given as Coatbridge Scotland  , age 27 in 1915 , father John Clark of Coatbridge Scotland , next of kin Doris Louise Clark of Adelaide.

Thanks Anne_p ,

That would seem to confirm that the Army record is the correct one.

Hi All  :)

ShayeRebecca, there is a family tree for this family here on A/try (but you need a subs to view  :-\) http://person.ancestry.co.uk/tree/62730931/person/32095023017/facts

Elizabeth Scott, wife of John Clark as anne_p, showed on the 1891 census, looks to have died in 1895 at 8 Moss Side, Coatbridge. On WW1 service records, normally mother was given as next of kin. If deceased, then father's details were given.

Their marriage on 2 April 1875.

This looks to be the ref for Henry, https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XT6H-YVR that anne_p showed on the 1891 census entry. Likely early deaths for children born post marriage in 1875 up to then, 1881?

1901 here:

Mr. John Clark 48 Filter (engineer)
James Clark 15 Iron Puddler
John Clark 15
Kate Grant 21 niece b. Lanarkshire, Old Monkland

Address: 8 Kipps Row Coatbridge

Son James above, his age is wrongly indexed. When he married in 1905 (Margaret Peters MacDonald), still living at Kipps Row, parents names confirmed, John Clark and Elizabeth Scott (deceased).
