On Google maps there is a place name called Carolina on the Foyle river just east of Porthall.  Does anyone know how old this placename is?  It appears to have been originally part of Porthall townland, Clonleigh Parish.

Kincaids (Kincade, Kinkaid, Kinkead, etc.) of Counties Londonderry and Tyrone.

Gardiners of Ramelton, County Donegal.

No mention of it in the OSI 6" mapping series (1829-1841):

Thanks for the replies.  Carolina is clearly show next to/part of Porthall on Google maps.  It must be fairly new.  I was hoping it was an old local name as it might help with a family connection.

I've found Carolina on the OS map 1888-1913 and although it isn't on the earlier 1829-42 OS map, the area right next to it is marked "Carryleny".

Can you post a link for where you found it?

Carolina is just NE of a large farm complex which used to be Port Hall and Porthall House and is seen here on Google Satellite.

It's not on the Historic Map 25 inch (GeoHive-OSi) in the area.
