Weir and Ormsby Connection Castle Dargon Sligo
« on: Saturday 30 January 16 15:09 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone help with a Launcelot Weir who married an Unknown Ormsby?
Launcelot (bc 1754) was the son of George Weir and married an unknown Ormsby of Castledargon Sligo. They had at least 6 children, incl Robert Lewis Weir, William Ormsby Weir and Launcelot Weir.
Anything on the Ormsby side would be a great help

Hi,
I am desperately trying to find the wife of my 4x gt grandfather Launcelot WEIR. Old family letters only refer to her as Grandmama with her brother referred to as Mr Ormsby of Castle Dargan.

Launcelot and Miss Ormsby settled in Lakeview Sligo and had six children, that I know of:
Mary Weir (married Mr Maxwell); Francis Weir (married Robert Weir, a relative); Elinor Weir (married Edward C Bourke); William Weir (married Winifred Tivnan); Robert Weir, my 3x gt grandfather (married Hannah Phibbs); and Launcelot Weir

The name of Ormsby became a very popular middle name within the family and was used countless times.

Not knowing if any other sisters had passed away, in one letter it is said that she was the only sister of Mr Ormsby (of Castle Dargan) and that he gave each of her children £800.

I would love to find her name, at least. Miss Ormsby or Mrs Weir feels as if she wasn't actually part of the family when in fact she was my 4x gt grandmother.

To give an idea of time line, Launcelot Weir was born c1754 and died 1838 aged abt 84
