Obtaining a Birth Certificate from St. Petersburg, Russia
« on: Monday 01 February 16 18:31 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I am new to this site and am researching my husband's family tree.  His grandfather was born in St. Petersburg, Russia in 1899.  Is it possible to obtain a copy of his birth certificate and can anyone advise what I need to do.

Many thanks
Theresa

Was he British or Russian ?

If he was British his birth may be registered in the British nationals born overseas indexes. These are indexed on findmypast. If you can have a look there and if you find him then you can order a birth certificate from the GRO using the references found in the index

James Stott c1775-1850. James was born in Yorkshire but where? He was a stonemason and married Elizabeth Archer (nee Nicholson) in 1794 at Ripon. They lived thereafter in Masham. If anyone has any suggestions or leads as to his birthplace I would be interested to know. I have searched for it for years without success. Thank you.
