Llangadwaladr church 1724
« on: Friday 05 February 16 16:09 GMT (UK) »
Whilst checking on a 1724 marriage at Llangadwaladr church I noticed on the image that I was viewing what appears to be a list of church officials, alongside some of the names is the word "Curat" and wondered what this signifies.

Thank you all for the replies.

I did wonder whether a church would have three curates, as it would appear that three people have the word curat next to their name, I assumed that a church would have a rector and a curate.

One of the people named is Ludovicus Owen (Lewis Owen) who was married at Mallwyd in 1724 and if my research is correct was a farm labourer, so is it possible that a farm labourer could also be a curate?

On one of the Mallwyd marriage transcriptions  I have seen next to "Groom signed" entry it shows "Curate Llangadwaladr".
