Where would Quinton McIntosh be buried?
« on: Sunday 07 February 16 21:22 GMT (UK) »
I have a death record for Quinton McIntosh d. 1855 which says he was buried in the Portobello churchyard, Edinburgh.  Which church would this mean?  Any ideas??

I would imagine it would be St. Mark's unless they were members of the Church of England then it would be St. George's.  I'm unsure if there are others during this period.
I have turned off all email notifications, thank you.

Thanks for such a quick response.  Will try St. Mark's and see how I go.

http://portal.historic-scotland.gov.uk/designation/LB26969    Portobello Old

"GRAVEYARD: extended in 1850 due to overcrowding (Baird p 412); subsequently (1964) church hall built to SW to designs of Alan Reiach and Partners. Various gravestones against boundary walls and free-standing; burial enclosure to NW for James Newlands. Paupers stones to SE, in front of return elevation of N jamb."

St. George's, Portobello is of course not in Portobello Edinburgh but in SHEFFIELD.

unless they were members of the Church of England

They could not have attended a Church of England in Scotland because there are none. If they preferred the Anglican version of Christianity they would have attended the Episcopal Church of Scotland (aka Scottish Episcopal Church) which is a member of the worldwide Anglican community, but it is a separate independenct denomination, not part of the Church of England.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.
